Biography

Kathryn L. Garrett is a 1989 Cum Laude graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law.  She did her undergraduate studies in History and Political Science at Whitworth University, Spokane, Washington where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1976.  She was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1989.  She is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California. 

Ms. Garrett specializes in civil litigation.  From 2010 to 2013, she worked with San Diego Fire Lawyers, a group of litigation attorneys who represented over 1,000 families and businesses who were victims of the 2007, Witch Creek, Guejito and Rice Canyon fires.  She handled cases for fire victims in Rancho Bernardo, Ramona, Fallbrook, Rancho Santa Fe and Escondido ranging from single family residence occupants to multi million dollar business losses.  Ms. Garrett met personally with each client many times over the course of their case to assist them in developing loss inventories, and valuations and rebuild assistance, providing much needed emotional support as well as legal support.  As part of the San Diego Fire Lawyers team, Ms. Garrett successfully worked up dozens of case for successful mediations, including a multi-million dollar settlement on behalf of a couple who narrowly escaped death by spending the night submerged in their backyard swimming pool.   She started her legal career representing insurance companies and their insureds on various matters but has represented for over a decade plaintiffs seeking compensation for losses, including her current position as a plaintiff’s lawyer with Banning LLP, where she has worked since 2013.
