Symptoms you may face after a traumatic brain injury

If you suffer a traumatic brain injury, it can lead to both short-term and long-term symptoms. Some of these symptoms may fade relatively quickly, such as in a few days or weeks after the injury. Others could last for months or even for life.

Mild symptoms often include things like a headache, dizziness, blurred vision or ringing in the ears. Some people experience a change in their sleeping habits, such as finding it difficult to wake up or feeling excessively fatigued. There can also be short-term memory issues, such as forgetting the incident in which the TBI occurred. Often, sensory sensitivity increases, such as being overly sensitive to lights and sounds.

Serious or long-term symptoms

More severe symptoms tend to last for a bit longer. For instance, you may have a headache that does not go away or that even gets worse. You could experience mental confusion, and that could be connected to mood swings, agitation, restlessness and things of this nature.

Sensory symptoms may also be more severe, such as a loss of vision, slurred speech or numbness in your extremities. Some people experience continued nausea and vomiting, and they may have uncoordinated or clumsy physical movements.

If symptoms persist, that could indicate that it is a serious injury, such as a brain bleed or an intracranial hemorrhage. That is when emergency medical treatment is very important.

Seeking financial compensation

Have you suffered a traumatic brain injury due to someone else’s negligence? If so, you may deserve financial compensation for lost wages, pain and suffering, medical bills and the long-term impact on your life.
